The 2025-2026 class of Youth Leadership Hardin County turned their attention to local media and the industrial sector for their January session.
The class of 36 high school juniors representing six area high schools started the day visiting WQXE and The Wolf radio stations in Elizabethtown. They had the opportunity to tour the stations, appear live on the air, learn about the various careers in radio and meet the owners, Advertising Representatives, News Director and Traffic Coordinator. It was an exciting and eye-opening behind the scenes tour.
Then, the group visited with local communications firm, Heartland, to learn about the wide scope of work they do. In addition to Heartland, the class had the opportunity to tour and learn about Give270 and the significant impact it makes for non-profit organizations. Led by Heartland President Kenny Rambo and his team, the students learned the ins and outs of media, communications and Public Relations, as well as the never ending evolution of social media and marketing.
Following a hearty lunch provided by Burrell Family McDonald’s, the students met with officials at Altec Industries and took an in-depth and engaging tour of the plant. Students were exposed to various careers and areas of expertise while learning about one of our community’s largest manufacturers.
It was a great day full of exciting and meaningful experiences. Thanks to the sponsors, volunteers, counselors, speakers and everyone involved in making the day a success.
