Hardin County Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate Matthew Rivera on being chosen as the ABC Student of the Month. Matthew is a Fort Knox High School senior and the son of retired Sgt. Maj. Vickie Rivera and Sgt. 1st Class Ted Rivera. Matthew is his class salutatorian, a basketball team captain, president of the National Honor Society and Fort Knox JROTC Battalion Commander. In addition, he also is a member of the Fort Knox Y-Club, student council, Order of the Eagle Claw, color guard and Raider Team. As a leader in the community, Matthew has tutored high school students, organized and executed clothing and food drives, served in soup kitchens, and has worked with numerous projects relating to the well-being of soldiers on Fort Knox.
Because of Matthew’s hard work and dedication, he has received many awards and honors such as the President’s Education Award, Presidential Fitness Award, Principal’s Award, 4.0 GPA Award, Superior JROTC Cadet Medal, Student of the Quarter, and has been placed on the 5th Region Basketball All-A Academic Team twice.
In December 2016, Matthew received a Congressional Nomination from Congressman Brett Guthrie to the United States Military Academy at West Point. In January 2017, Matthew formally received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point and will report on July 3 with a major in law.
ABC Students of the Month are awarded a plaque and $50 gift certificate, provide by the Chamber.
