The following is a short description of the LHC program sessions as currently structured. (Please note that the schedule and syllabus is flexible and subject to change. Also, day sessions are ALL-day classes. Block your schedule from 8AM to 5 PM.)
Session I : The Reception
July 24, 2014
You will be introduced to your fellow Leadership Hardin CountyClassmates. Leadership Hardin County Alumni will sponsor and host the reception.
Session II : Team Building
Aug 7-Aug 8, 2014
(Mandatory Session)
The LHC Orientation is a team building exercise where class members will learn about increasing human performance; about styles of leadership, and which are most effective; become acquainted with presentation techniques; participate in discussions on leadership and ethics.
Session III: Chamber Luncheon
August 13, 2014
You will be introduced to the business community during a regular Chamber Luncheon.
Session IV: History of Hardin County
Sept 4, 2014
This session will focus on the History of our entire Hardin County. Teams will be broken into groups to research and do a presentation on what they learned about their time period.
Session V: Local and State Government
Oct 2, 2014
This session will include the education components of how Local and State Government are structured. The day will include a trip to Frankfort. The class will be addressed by elected Local & State official(s) and will include a tour of the State Capital.
Session VI: Economic Development
Nov 6, 2014
This session acquaints the class with the fundamentals of economic development. Through discussions and exercises, the class will examine the needs and capabilities of our community. The class will develop short and long term strategies for strengthening the communities economic development programs.
Session VII: Education
Dec 4, 2014 This class will examine the local educational system. It will include tours to some of the local educational facilities and evaluate the regional educational environment, how Hardin County ranks and ways in which we might improve.
Session VIII: Law & Justice
Jan 8, 2015
The class will travel to the Hardin County Hall of Justice and meet with the circuit, district and supreme court justices, as well as the government attorneys who practice in those courts. A trip to the county jail completes the session.
Session IX: Media
Feb 5, 2015
This session will address companies that provide news coverage. How stories are selected and the process of how and what is shared with the public. Site visits to local media facilities will be included.
Session X: Health & Social Services
March 5, 2015
This session focuses on the services available in our community to help people. Presentations by State, County and community personnel who deliver these services will be augmented by visits to various community sites.
Session X1: Ft. Knox
April 9, 2015
This session consists of a behind-the-scenes tour of our neighbor to the north. How did the BRAC decision reshape their mission. Tours of some of the latest developments are being planned.
Session XII: Wrap-Up Session
April 30, 2015 (half-day)
This session will focus on how the program may be improved next year, finalizing plans for the class project and role of the Alumni.
Session XIII: Graduation
May 14, 2015
Graduation marks the conclusion of Leadership Hardin County for the year. Students will be recognized for fulfilling their commitment to the program. Program will be open to Alumni, community leaders and family and friends of the graduate. Special Awards will also be presented.
