Congratulations to Doug Shepherd on winning the 2024 Distinguished Service Award for Farm-City Relations at the annual Farm-City Day program.
Doug tirelessly served the community as the Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent for the Hardin County Cooperative Extension Service for decades, beginning in 1990. He was instrumental in the building of the office’s current spacious facility, as well as providing significant assistance to farmers with tobacco settlements and the transition to other products.
Doug has been actively involved in coordinating the Farm-City Day programs and he has devoted countless hours to the community. He spear-headed the effort to create the Kentucky Heartland Village in 2010 that was a large part of the Kentucky Heartland Festival.
The 2023 recipient, Chuck Crutcher, presented the award to a very surprised Shepherd, while his family hid from his view during the event.
We congratulate Doug on this very special and well-deserved award.
