Do you endorse LIFT and the Local Option Sales Tax?
I do support LIFT and the Local Option Sales Tax. Any tax that the citizens can vote on is a good thing because the revenue can only be used on projects the citizens approve.
Whether you are in support of LIFT or not, what projects do you see as priority that could benefit from community funding?
The projects that I feel could benefit the community are continuing to revitalize historical downtown Elizabethtown and helping to improve the south side of town.
Do you see any services provided by both County and City government where it would be more cost effective to combine these efforts?
I do not feel that there are any services that the city and county could combine at this time.
In light of potential additional cuts at Fort Knox, will you endorse funding for One Knox? If not, what are you willing to do to protect the economic contribution of Fort Knox?
I am in fully support of One Knox. We can work to build industry in the area to help support this important cause.
What are you recommending being done to bring new business to downtown Elizabethtown? What incentives should the City make available to existing business to expand and potential new business to come to the downtown area? Do you believe a change to the alcohol regulations should be made to stimulate interest in downtown development?
I believe that by investing on the south side of town with new hotels/motels and businesses would create growth in downtown. We could look at some type of zoning changes to help the downtown businesses to attract more businesses to the area. Making it more pedestrian friendly could increase business growth, also. We need to look at small towns successes like Bardstown to see what it working and what needs to be altered.
Will you be a supporter of the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce? For the Mayor office, will you attend the regular Board meetings?
I will do what I can to work together with the Chamber to ensure success in our town.
The Sports Park is now a proven creator of tourism and new economic activity for this community. Do you think that our community needs other forms of entertainment in order to entice these sports teams and their parents to come back to the park in the future? Do you know if tournament entries are on the increase or decline at the Sports Park and why? What needs to be provided in terms of governance of the Sports Park and new entertainment services and amenities for the visitors in our community to ensure the continued success of the Sports Park?
The sports park has been a great asset to our community. We need more motels/hotels to help visitors be closer to the facility.
Do you feel the Planning and Zoning Department needs to create a more streamlined and efficient process for both current and potentially new business? If not, what can businesses do to be better prepared for new development plans and applications? If yes, what are your recommendations for improved efficiency?
We need to make Elizabethtown more business friendly. In collaboration with planning and zoning, we can work to entice new businesses to the area.
What is your position on the potential closure of Woodland Drive near the Hospital?
If Woodland Drive does not change, the city needs to look at installation of automatic flashing lights signals and gates for the public and hospital workers. The workers have to park across the road. This is an issue that needs to researched and studied closely to come up with an appropriate solution.
