Feeding American Kentucky’s Heartland is the secondary sponsor of the May Chamber luncheon.
As Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland celebrates its 40th anniversary, Executive Director Jamie Sizemore shares about the impact this agency has and invites you to celebrate with them.

In 1981, the Kentucky Council of Churchesโ Task Force on Hunger hosted a meeting in Elizabethtown in response to the increasing number of people facing hunger in Kentucky. After this initial meeting two local community members, Dot Hansen and Rita Jenkins, took action and lead the efforts to establish a regional food bank in May of 1982. Because of their determination and charitable work along with many other dedicated community leaders, Feeding America, Kentuckyโs Heartland is celebrating our 40th anniversary this month.
Who could have imagined that FAKH would grow from distributing 80,000 pounds of donated food through five partner agencies in our first full year of operation to distributing over 21 million pounds through more than 240 partner agencies in fiscal year 2020. Over the years, FAKH has expanded our service area from 35 to 42 Kentucky counties and added nine successful programs including our popular BackPack and Commodity Supplemental Food Program for seniors. Weโve experienced two name changes and expanded our facilities to meet emerging needs. Even the variety of foods offered has changed over the years from only non-perishable items to a mix of healthier perishable options including fresh produce, dairy and lean protein.
Join us on Thursday, May 26th as we commemorate this special occasion by celebrating the incredible commitment of our community over the last 40 years. Whether you or your organization has volunteered time, donated funds or advocated for hunger relief efforts, FAKH simply couldnโt have distributed more than 300 million pounds of food and products to our hungry neighbors in need without you. Please join us as we recognize all those who have โCome to the Tableโ in our combined efforts to end hunger.
Thank you,
Jamie Sizemore
